Quick OutDo 600 (2005)
EP 600 Prototype review Summer 2004
Initially called the EP 600 and based on the Quick 50 nitro model with 600mm blades. Prototype was powered by an Actro Brushless motor and 10 cell lipo. As per the rest of the range it was to be available in two versions available, Sport with G-10 frames and plastic blade holders; Pro with Carbon frames and full metal head. With the recommended main blades, motor and battery combination and 6600 mAh Lipo the resulting flight times were in excess of 20 minutes; though depending upon the flight envelope undertaken. Note that as per a lot of performance electric machines at the time the brushless set up used was of the high voltage type with European motor, it was to be a few years before lower cell count brushless motor from the far east were to make electric flight more affordable.
Though tested in Summer 2004, it was to be early 2005 before the model was available and by then it had been renamed to the Quick EP 600 OutDo and then a few months later changed to just OutDo 600 (Short for Out Doors, fairly obvious!!!).
As standard the OutDo came in two versions, both with 2mm frame thickness, 8mm head spindles and an un-painted black & white Fibreglass canopy. The De-luxe having a fully machined head and metal grips with Carbon Fibre frames and supports plus auto rotation with driven tail . The Sport version had G10fiberglass frames etc, molded main blade and tail blade grips and NO autorotation capability; this latter omission by 2005 was quite unusual given that this feature had been fitted to all to very basic small electric machines for at least 10 years plus the other main electric helicopter from Quick, the Sweet 16 EP had autorotation on the standard version????
For the first time Quick marketed this model as a complete includes the kit, motor, battery, 600mm Fibreglass blades & Electronic Speed Control; thus buyers did not need to outsource the electrical equipment and it ensured the machine had the expected performance right from the start.
