The Cobra was a further evolution of the Hirobo Falcon and  GMP Competitor helicopters introduced in 1984.

Like the Competitor, the Cobra was comprised of approximately 50% American manufactured components, and 50% Hirobo parts. Many of the lower-cost components could be upgraded to higher-performance versions, such as ball bearings, rotor head, and a variety of other components.

A fully-upgraded Cobra with a larger .60 sized engine and "zero-coning angle" machined Competitor rotor head was (perhaps expectedly) very similar in performance to the Competitor. The company dubbed the upgraded Cobra the “King Cobra”, which was introduced in 1986.
