Kyosho Nexus 30 Standard (s type s)

The Nexus was the follow up model to the Concept range and was based on the Concept_30 SR-T sharing 50% of its component parts. The major design change however was the repositioning the engine to the vertical plane.  This allowed for a top start system to be used requiring a newly designed engine/clutch setup with a new two shoe clutch assembly and clutch bell with relocated cooling duct for greater airflow over the engine.  A low slung 240cc fuel tank under the shaft improved the balance of the machine. The optional, large capacity 290cc fuel tank( No. H-3287) could be fitted and was especially useful when using high performance engines. The head assembly was also modified with an under- slung flybar and convenient main rotor head button.

The main frames were also re-designed to a modular layout to give excellent access to the engine and thus the complete power train could be removed from the Helicopter without removing the exhaust or the needle valve. It utilised SR-X style servo frames for the most direct linkage layout with minimum flex to give good control precision and repositioned gyro mount that moved it closer to the main mast.  An Autorotation unit was fitted as standard and the Nexus also included.  Designed with a greater ground clearance and integral boom supports, the Nexus had improved crash resistance and this, together with its long main shaft, gave the new comer greater protection against boom strikes in the event of a heavy landing.

As a new model, the Nexus featured an all-new moulded body shell and decal set.

Kyosho Nexus 30 Deluxe (d type f)

The Kyosho Nexus 30 Deluxe had all the features of its standard brother but was designed to be an aerobatic wizard utilising the flapping head from the concept VR.  Full ball bearings used throughout for smoother operation, All metal linkage balls for added durability, A high-performance swash plate for improved response and reliability, Autorotation as standard along with tail boom supports for extra reinforcement and rigidity. Adjustable muffler to minimise noise levels and sixth-servo capability to allow for carb mixture adjustments in flight plus 2mm tail drive wire to decrease whipping and increases tail control.

In a similar manner as the Concept VR the Nexus was also offered with the bigger engine option and came as  80% pre-built with the OS 46 FX-H already installed so final assembly required only a few hours.   Additional performance-enhancing hop-ups on the Nexus 46 included a newly designed cooling fan, new clutch shoe, an 86T main gear, engine mount and muffler.

Kyosho Nexus Legato

As a further enhancement the Nexus was developed to to utilise the new OS FS-52 Surpass four stroke engine fitted to the 'deluxe' version airframe (flapping head).  Supplied 80% preassembled in the same manner as the Nexus 46 with the already installed FS-52 Surpass engine making setting up easy.  A number of other modifications were needed to take account of the lower operating RPM of the OS-52 and the higher torque output; namely cooling fan, new clutch shoes, an 86T main gear, an 11T drive pinion gear, engine mount, manifold and a muffler.

Not many of this version were sold as it was comparatively expensive and its performance though up on the 30 size model was not as good as the Nexus 46 which being much cheaper was the one to go for.  Care had to be taken though not to set too high a head speed otherwise the four stroke engine would be damaged; alternatively setting too low a head speed dramatically reduced performance.

It is interesting to note that Kyosho very actively supported the flapping head system as the performance option, and the standard model was fitted with the feather shaft type head.  This was soon to change with the feather shaft type becoming the major player especially with the increased importance of inverted performance.
