KALT Rotor Heads (+ blades)

Most of the Kalt helicopter kits were marketed without the rotor head assembly which was considered a user 'option'.  The rotor head plays a major part in the control of a helicopter however, it was also the most expensive assembly and for a beginner, the 'expert' head would be an unnecessary expense when the 'basic' head would more than fulfil their need.  Thus the helicopter could be initially purchased much cheaper and then upgraded as required.  Additionally, for 'sports' flyers there was a need for an intermediate head assembly to bridge the gap between basic and the costly 'expert' head; providing that option would also help to keep costs down.  These options were much appreciated by buyers however, when coupled with a similar (but not quite as radical) variation in the basic mechanics kits meant that a lot of Kalt helicopters differed from each other to some degree; this is why generally both the model of the airframe and head are quoted.

Kalt Black 10 FSII rotor head (19##)

Black 10 FSII 1991 photo

Constructed the same as the SII along with 14 bearings however this rotor head includes additional 'flapping' movement incorporated into the blade holders with damping by rubber inserts; adjustment of this damping action being achieved by compressing the rubber damper with a threaded rotating lockable collar.  This head has a very smooth response by imposing the benefits of flapping hinges onto a seesaw head.  Slightly heavier at 385 grams but with the same 200mm between blade bolts.

Kalt Black 10 OF rotor head (19##)

Black 10 OF 1991 photo

Top of the line specification 1991 with many advanced features to give very precise and smooth control i.e. zero coning angle, thrust as well as double blade support bearings with variable damper adjustment by tapered bush.  Weight 430 gram with slighter smaller 190mm between blade bolts than the SII and FSII.
