Building Black Star GS2

With Super Kaiser body set.

Considered the best FAI F3C machine when introduced with H1000 Black Pearl 1 rotor head, super BL-T silencer and starter shaft.

The Black Star was also adapted to use the larger OS four stroke engines of 91size; not sure if this was marketed outside of Japan.

No info other than the Super Kaiser body option.

TSK Black Star-DL (1992)

With Super Kaiser body set and "Black Pearl I" rotor head.

Length - 1423mm / Main Rotor Diameter - 1560mm / Tail Rotor Diameter - 280mm / Height - ###mm / Gear ratio - 8.6: 1 : 5.1 / Weight 4300g nominal

Upgraded Black Star with push-pull linkages (DL) in order to reduce play and give increased precision.  Designed for competing in F3C and as such was optimised for smooth hovering, large manoeuvres and precise control; not suited for 'hot-dogging' or as it was soon to be more commonly called 3-D type flying.  Included a 'driven tail' so that very precise heading control could be maintained during autorotation.  Comments below from unknown reviewer:

The frame setup on this helicopter is very unique.  It is divided into three major components: The upper frame, lower frame, and servo frame sections. The upper frame houses the main gear, shaft, and collective system, the lower frame houses the engine area, and fuel tank.  These frame sections are connected via aluminium cross members and bearing blocks and together produce a machine with incredible strength to handle today's powerful engines and rigorous flight requirements.  Based on the Blackstar, the servos are rearranged for a push-pull dual linkage set-up.  This set-up not only reduces slop, but extends servo life.  This set-up makes use of all torque of the servo, giving you strong, precise control over your helicopter.  This machine comes standard with a constant tail drive , and auto-rotation clutch.  This is a must-have feature for FAI flying where constant rudder control is necessary during auto-rotation.  All gears are CNC cut from delrin plastic for greater strength and precise gear mesh.  Moving into the engine area, you'll find a heavy duty clutch that is nearly indestructible with clutch shoe made from layered steel plates. These clutch shoes are retained by spring plate that controls engagement of the clutch so even in the worst of accidents, the only parts that need replacement are the spring plates.  The clutch lining is made of a material very similar to brake lining on your car.  The wear characteristics of this lining is much better than that used in most helicopters.  Among other features the Blackstar has a shaft within shaft collective system. This means that the mixing base is supported by a control shaft that is inside of the main shaft.  The main shaft is slotted to allow free movement of the collective base.

Exploded view of "Black Pearl I" rotor head.

The Black Star mechanics were also available as a 'power module' for use in a body set

The Black Star-DL was also adapted to use the larger OS four stroke engines of both 91 and 120 sizes; not sure if these were marketed outside of Japan.

TSK Black Star-DL GSII (1993)

with Super Kaiser body set and "Black Pearl I" rotor head.

Length - 1473mm / Main Rotor Diameter - 1816mm / Tail Rotor Diameter - 280mm / Height - ###mm / Gear ratio - 6.62: 1 : 5.38 / Weight 6350g nominal

Main mechanics based on the Black Star-DL power train with dual linkages to cyclic controls; carbon fibre lower frame set with wider body pillars in order to accommodate the TAS 32cc petrol engine with two starting systems; top start as per the DL and a recoil pull start.  Tail boom extended to 1000mm in order to accommodate the fitting of large rotor blades.  Designed for FAI F3C competitions and fitted out with the new carbon fibre tail drive system with split gear true drive designed for autorotation.

View of drive assembly and gears

Petrol engine initially caused ignition interference problems and Tim Count who traded as TC Heliservices developed additional suppression.

The GAS DL has the same mechanics as the DL 60, however the kit comes with a 32 cc. gas engine with two starting systems. First is the top start like the DL 60, and a recoil starter. The helicopter is somewhat larger, with extended side frames, 1 meter boom, and requires larger blades. (Hi-Products Big 1800's) included with kit. All other aspects of this machine are of the distinguished TSK quality.
