The Millenium Team Race

Dreamed up and sponsored by David Kinsella, the Millenium Team Race is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first Team Race held in this country exactly half a century ago.

The event is to take place at Old Warden during the SAM 35 Sport and Vintage weekend on Saturday and Sunday 8th and 9th July, 2000.

Rules are quite simple in that the models must be of designs published prior to January 1951 and powered by an engine of the period.

Terry McDonald, a long time Team Race fan has researched and come up with an initial list of eighteen models as shown below, although other models may still come to light.

A heat will be of 80 laps (5 miles) and to qualify for an award the model must complete 50% of the heat distance i.e. at least 40 laps.

Pitting will be carried out where the model stops on landing i.e. no catching.

For safety reasons the models will be subject to a 20G pull test prior to flying.

The event with prizes will be based on the authenticity and finish of the model, it must fly a heat and the period dress of the pilot and pitmen will be taken into account.

The actual race times will not be of any real significance for the major prize.
