Vintage RC Helicopters - Kalt Baron Whisper Kalt Baron Whisper (1990) Kalt's first electric driven helicopter, the Baron Whisper, was developed over a number of years and in the UK was presented at the Sandown show (UK distributor August trade review).
The concept had been to develop a model with over 5 minutes flying time that would be more than just a trainer so the design philosophy was based on an airframe just strong enough to withstand flight loads so the resulting light weight of the Whisper meant it had very good aerobatic performance. Autorotation and a battery pack of 1700 mAh were options but did increase the overall flying weight with a slight reduction in aerobatic ability. The rotor head had collective pitch, Bell/Hiller mixing and was of the 'flapping' type with the flexible plate manufactured from fibreglass. An unusual feature was the co-axial swashplate which did away with the need for a spherical bearing and allowed direct linkages from the servo; thus reducing system play and giving more positive control. The drive was through a double reduction gear set resulting in a very slim body that would not be possible with just a single reduction gear. Tail drive being by belt and taken off the first reduction gear set. Kalt Baron Whisper RTF For home market and had minor changes with the most noticeable being extended wide aluminium land legs with additional 'trainer' bar. Kalt Baron Whisper Sport Not sure on the difference between the original version and the 'sport'. Whisper manual - Full build manual with parts list; includes update pages for later version whispers. Whisper ESC addendum - Whisper motor brush change info Whisper reviews and various updates - By Dave Day The Whisper proved successful and because of its good performance it was well able to take the addition of a scale 'hang on' fuselage.
