Vintage RC Helicopters - Joe's Collection - Schlüter Joe's Collection - Schlüter Joe William Richardson Schlüter Cobra (1973) Bought Jun 09 being an original 'Fixed Pitch' version but had been brought up to date along with a full complement of lights and pilot figures etc (actually a bit 'tacky'). Requires a bit of work to tidy up and to make the pilots look correct as they are WW2 style. Schlüter Cobra (1973) Originally a 'Fixed Pitch' model but fitted with a later head so as to use semi-symmetrical blades with engine well down on compression and lacking radio gear. Had a few 'holes' from previously fitted radio gear that will require filling back in and general upgrade with a set of weapons and a couple of pilots. Intention is to rebuilt with a 'period' Webra engine along with modern radio gear and upgrade to collective pitch along with a gyro. Schlüter DS-22 (1974) Bought in Jul 08 being build in about 2005 from an old kit; fixed Pitch version and equipped with modern radio gear, Webra engine but NO gyro. Test hovered in the garden and found that tail control was marginal, unfortunately it was also a bit blustery and I ended up in a 30 foot high hover and could not get it down again. Because of the fixed pitch, it required the throttle closing off to such an extent in order to descend that the head speed slowed right down. This resulted in loss of tail authority and next to no cyclic response so the throttle had to be opened again in order to regain control and prevent a crash. After quite a while fighting to keep overhead and 'safe' a 'lull' occurred allowing height to be lost and a quick 'shut-down' on the ground. I won't make that mistake again with a big fixed pitch machine and intend to fit a mechanical Futaba gyro to at least keep the tail a little more stable plus a reduction in pitch a little in order to give a bit more head speed. In Apr 09 whilst test running, I had an engine 'run away' due to having the throttle cut set in the wrong direction (i.e. increasing throttle setting) and as the head spun up a blade caught my elbow. Hardly felt the contact but it spat the blade straight off........... On inspection the wood was very dry and although there was no evidence of any 'cracking' it had been weakened with age. A real 'bummer' BUT if I had brought the head speed up or subjected the helicopters to more stress then the blades may have broken off in flight which does not bear thinking about. Need to repair/upgrade by cutting off 50mm on each blade and then epoxy skinning for 50% of the length. Schlüter Gazelle Bought Feb 10 as restoration project without engine and radio gear and had suffered a bit of tail damage in transit but nothing too untoward. Schlüter Heli-Baby (FP) (1974) Bought Dec 09 and fully equipped with period radio gear and engine. Stripped down and put into storage pending rebuild. Schlüter Heli-Baby (FP) (1974/2009) Newly manufacture using original mouldings and drawings; with advice from Dieter Schlüter himself. Schlüter Super Heli-Baby (CP) Very poor condition though I do have the parts to complete a rebuild from my 'spares' box. Schlüter Heli-Boy Three of these; one complete but requiring a full overhaul, the other near complete but will need a full restoration. Schlüter Mini-Boy (FP) Frozen engine and fitted with old 27 Meg Futaba gear. No major damage but needs a full restoration. Schlüter Heli-Star One complete but needing a good service/overhaul and the engine is frozen with another two near complete models stripped down for storage. Schlüter Cheyenne Complete model with 'fixed' wheeled landing gear; awaiting full service. Schlüter Cheyenne Reproduced body kit plus used mechanics and new four blade head assembly. Schlüter SX-81 Complete model in good condition; awaiting full service. Schlüter Champion Near complete and stripped down for storage pending restoration. Schlüter Bolkow Bk117 Scout 60 mechanics and Schlüter four blade head. Unfinished kit with the mechanics partially assembled along with a new Webra 61. Schlüter Bolkow Bo105 - Champion head with Heli-Star mechanics. Schlüter Junior 50 Three of these; two with engines and can be fully built up (though only one canopy) the other will act as spares. Schlüter Junior 50 II Stripped down for storage and future rebuild. Schlüter Scout Complete new Kit. Schlüter Magic Complete new Kit. Schlüter Bell 222uT (x2) One in what appears to be reasonable condition but requires stripping to check. The other is a bit of a 'dog' however once stripped down (white one above) it was all there and so could also be restored. Top of Page (VRHC - Vintage Radio controlled HeliCopters) |
